14 Shelburne Long-Term Care Home Residents Resolved

We are very pleased to share that 14 residents at the Shelburne Long-Term Care Home have recovered from COVID-19 and are declared RESOLVED by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH).

These are our first residents to recover from COVID-19; a milestone we share with families, staff and our partners in health and social care. We are grateful to our team providing support and our partners who are helping us provide even better care.

While we know this news is good and a moment to rejoice, we are reminded of the lives lost in our home. Our community is grieving alongside the families of the loved and cherished members of our home who are no longer with us. Each is greatly missed.

We continue to do everything we can to care for and support all our residents and staff.

Letter to Families: Shelburne Long-Term Care Home

Dear Family Member,

As we continue to address the challenges presented by COVID-19 in the long-term care sector, we are pleased to share with you that we have accepted the assistance of our healthcare partners at Headwaters Health Care Centre and others within the broader health and social service sector in the region, including Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, to provide additional support at our home.

In addition to providing us with additional expertise in areas such as managing viral outbreaks, they will also provide us with additional staffing support across various functions including care, infection control, housekeeping and dietary departments.

The support from our community partners will ensure that we continue to have everything we need to keep our residents safe in their homes, and we would like to thank them for helping all of us through these challenging times.

We would also like to thank our entire care team for supporting our residents and one another throughout this pandemic. We know that only by working together will we be able to manage through this incredibly difficult time.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to our family partners. We know that being away from your loved ones has not been easy, but your participation in our response plan will help us save lives.

Be assured that our priorities going forward remain unchanged: we are working every day to protect the health and safety of our residents, staff and their loved ones and limit the spread of this virus.

We will continue to send daily updates by telephone via the Cliniconex communication platform to ensure that you are receiving information in a timely manner. To provide the most accurate information we do provide the data from the prior day. Information can change frequently throughout the day and this is the best option to ensure that the information you are provided is complete for that time period.

We are also considering additional communication to keep you and your families informed.

For those who may have additional questions on what we are doing during this outbreak, or have questions about their loved one, we have set up a toll-free line at 1-888-746-5511. The line is staffed seven days per week from 9:00am to 7:00pm EST.

Sincerely,
Stacey Rooyakkers
Executive Director
